Good gomez

Gomez with support from Josh Ritter, Hammersmith Apollo, Thursday 23rd November.

Firstly Josh Ritter is a very happy chappy- by far the happiest support act I've ever seen. A very nice change!

Secondly- Im going to have a moan about how some boring stupid dumb people are right at the front and get shitty and/or get in with the elbow if you so much as touch them. My god, some people are here to enjoy the concert and like to have a bit of a boogie/dance/mosh. So boooooo to the stupid dumb bitch that was standing next to Celeste that put a dampener on her Gomez experience #7. Go and get yourself a seated ticket next time you boring twat.

Anyway...........

Gomez are good! Maybe had never lived up to their hype (the curse of the Mercury Prize??) but all the albums I have of them are really good. Good good good. I was a shame that the Hammersmith Apollo hadn't sold out, but Muse were headlining Wembley for three nights as well. Never mind.

So the set- good mix of old and new, and a good 2 hour set at that. I counted 7 songs I didn't recognize off their new album, the rest were goodies. Blue moon rising was fantastic, and done in a completely different style, and it was good to hear 'We haven't turned around' with full-on guitars, not actoustic, which they did the last two times I saw them.

The grand finale, as with previous gigs I've been to was the one and only Whippin Picadilly. Singing at the top of your lungs was definitely the order of the day, and there was no holding Cest and I back for that.

Yeeeeeeeeeeeha! Theres just not enough hours in a day.

BTW: apparently according to the wealth of knowledge that is Richie, Whippin Picadilly is all about Gomez going to see Beck in Manchester (the big about a man dressed in a suit and looking like a lunatic....)
