Its been a bad day

According to AA Insurance, the 27th of November is supposed to be the unluckiest day of the year, in terms of claims etc...

Heres the list of stuff that happened to me yesterday to prove it

  1. I woke up at 3am in the morning and didn't get back to sleep
  2. The lightbulb went when I was in the shower, thus having a shower in the dark
  3. Got to the end of the road, just to see my bus pull away
  4. I fell over in football and grazed both elbows and knee which was all bloody
  5. I over-cooked my porridge and it was all stodgy and gross
  6. I then subsequently got deliberately elbowed in the boob by some bitch in the opposition
  7. I had to wait over 20 minutes for a Heathrow tube on the way home from football at Green Park

My friend Sorchas, boyfriends car also got broken into yesterday- they had a whole heap of stuff in it as they were moving that morning.

Good gomez

Gomez with support from Josh Ritter, Hammersmith Apollo, Thursday 23rd November.

Firstly Josh Ritter is a very happy chappy- by far the happiest support act I've ever seen. A very nice change!

Secondly- Im going to have a moan about how some boring stupid dumb people are right at the front and get shitty and/or get in with the elbow if you so much as touch them. My god, some people are here to enjoy the concert and like to have a bit of a boogie/dance/mosh. So boooooo to the stupid dumb bitch that was standing next to Celeste that put a dampener on her Gomez experience #7. Go and get yourself a seated ticket next time you boring twat.

Anyway...........

Gomez are good! Maybe had never lived up to their hype (the curse of the Mercury Prize??) but all the albums I have of them are really good. Good good good. I was a shame that the Hammersmith Apollo hadn't sold out, but Muse were headlining Wembley for three nights as well. Never mind.

So the set- good mix of old and new, and a good 2 hour set at that. I counted 7 songs I didn't recognize off their new album, the rest were goodies. Blue moon rising was fantastic, and done in a completely different style, and it was good to hear 'We haven't turned around' with full-on guitars, not actoustic, which they did the last two times I saw them.

The grand finale, as with previous gigs I've been to was the one and only Whippin Picadilly. Singing at the top of your lungs was definitely the order of the day, and there was no holding Cest and I back for that.

Yeeeeeeeeeeeha! Theres just not enough hours in a day.

BTW: apparently according to the wealth of knowledge that is Richie, Whippin Picadilly is all about Gomez going to see Beck in Manchester (the big about a man dressed in a suit and looking like a lunatic....)

Study into the eating habits of a TA....... Pure science baby

Ok so I really have too much time on my hands sometimes....

Abstract:
The habitual eating habits of a typical 25 year old London teaching assistant, a bit lost in life and always poor are examined in relation to the amount of time until a typical pay day. Baked beans, a typical cheap meal popular amongst the chosen demographic was used as an indicator to investigate how income affects quality of meals. Results show a significant (r2 = 0.96) correlation between the number of weeks into their monthly salary and the cans of baked beans consumed. Other comparable studies (Cobden, 2006; Ulenburg, 2006 & Ennis, 2006) show similar trends. The research concludes that in general poor, well educated teaching assistants often resort to beaked beans as a means of feeding themselves on a more frequent basis in the days leading up to pay day, under the assumption their money is rapidly running out.

Introduction:
Life as a young, twenty-something teaching assistant in London can be hard, especially as this particular demographic can often be well educated, intelligent and beautiful (Pannell et al, 2006). Most fall into the trap of taking up an easy job which is loads of fun, can make loads of friends, pays rubbish and is relatively easy in contrast to a job that may be better suited to their career aspirations (Pannell, 2006). Generally well educated in the areas of Psychology (Ennis, 2006; Lodha, 2006) Film and media (Cobden, 2006) or Science (Pannell, 2006) amongst others, teaching assistants often find themselves very low in cash in the days preceding pay day (Cobden, 2006; Clancy, 2006; Ennis, 2006; Ferbrache, 2006; Lodha, 2006; Pannell, 2006; Parker 2006). To stretch those scarce pounds, many teaching assistants to resort to eating copious amounts of baked beans, some even dubbing it the food of kings (Cobden, 2006). This study uses baked beans as an indicator, to determine how poor teaching assistants can really be, given that they are a cheap, versatile and substantial meal in times of need.

Methodology: The number of cans of baked beans consumed within a week were tallied by our subject at the end of every week. One can unit consisted of 475g of beans in tomato sauce. The same budget 15p Sainsbury’s brand beans were used, and the full contents of the can were to be consumed to count as one can. Beans could be consumed either on their own, or together to form gastronomical delights such as beans on toast, or baked potato or beans. For the purpose of this study, ‘accessories’ such as cheese or HP sauce could also be consumed.

Results:
The number of cans of baked beans consumed during the week increased as the number of weeks through the pay period continued (See fig 1.1).

I can't seem to put the graph in at the moment!!!!

This is a highly significant (r2 = 0.96) correlation between the two variables. The increase between the number of baked beans is more significant between the 2nd and 3rd weeks into the pay period, slightly easing off towards the end.

Conclusions:
Results show, that in general poor 25 year old teaching assistants largely resort to eating more baked beans as their money runs out, as shown by the significant correlation between the number of cans consumed within a week and the number of weeks into the monthly salary. The large increase in the amount of beans consumed between the 2nd and 3rd weeks could be explained by the subject blowing their budget within the 1st week on necessities such as clothing (Pannell, 2006) or alcohol (Pannell, 2006).

Four eyes

This is really funny- when I got my eyes tested, I was a tad hungover. Upon getting my glasses I though they might be the wrong prescription, as things can sometimes be a bit blurry. However, upon coming home on the tube after a few pints everything was crystal clear.

I think I might call em my beer goggles from now on!

My little gems

Kids say the darndest things....... from our lot at Woodfield School:

'What are you, DEAF?????' Nimalraj trying to get Trusha's attention- the thing is hes half deaf, and has to wear two hearing aids

Cole, the kid with Asperger's in reference to learning about solids, liquids and gases....
'Actually sir, theres four states of matter- solids, liquids, gases, and plasma'- with the most complete dead-pan expression, and was completely right!

I love my job!

my head hurts

I actually feel like I'm still a bit drunk.......

The Feeling with support from ?????? Shepherds Bush Empire Saturday 4th November

So yeah went to the Feeling... heres the photographic evidence, coz I really don't remember much! (Blame da beer bro!!!!)

Fill my little world.

I took heaps of video clips though, thats filling the void- I think I must have filmed the entire length of 'Danny Boy' and I had forgotten that they had also played 'Video killed the radio star'. I also managed to rip my favourite old pair of jeans (they were old and crusty, hence the reason I was wearing them in the first place) running out of a pub where I had gone to the toilet on the way home, stole a 'pedestrian sign' (god that is soooooooooooooooo student-like!!!) and all I can taste in my mouth is cigar!

After the gig, Richie and I went to a house party at our old flat, and I can safely say made complete drunk arses of ourselve, were probably shouting (a combination of going deaf after the gig, and just being drunk), and I was also spilling a lot of beer judging from the smell emanating from my trousers (2nd pair after ripping the first)

Da big drunk eegits

I've got a hankering for some lasagne now..... maybe some cheese will suffice?

Yay for music

Guillemots with support from some person with a slide guitar, Astoria, Thursday 2nd November.

I thought I was an Astoria virgin, until I realised that I was actually there once when I went out with Mel and her gay mates (it is often transformed into a gay bar....) so that was exciting, I had been to the Astoria afterall.

Anyway, the focus turns to the Guillemots- verdict= absolutely brilliant! Humble band, not pretentious, just came out and played their lovely sweet sweet music.

New Zealanders might recognise their great song, Trains to Brazil, which apparently they play on bfm. The album is a bit of a mixed bag, and you really have to be in the right mood to listen to it, however live they are completely different, Im struggling to put it very eloquently here coz im also watching the Australia vs Wales rugby game at present, so yeah just take my word for it- IT WAS GOOD!!!!!. The lead singer did a funny dance, which was way cooler than Johnny Borrels vacant stare (comparable to the blue-steel look from Zoolander, I forgot to mention in the other post)
I think the key was that everything was just right- the venue, the crowd, the amount of alcohol I'd consumed.

Just good shit, and by far the best gig I've been to this year by far!

Heres a pic anyway

Sheer brilliance!

Johnny Borrel- Sex god or sex shod?????

Hahahaha- I was trying to emulate a british tabloid headline....

Razorlight with some American support band, Wembley Arena, Wednesday 1st November.

So yeah you kinda wonder what kind of person the frontman of Razorlight, Johnny Borrel is if you witness three girls arguing over who owned the sweaty crusty old towel he threw off the stage at the end of their gig last night..... there were threats of lighters etc. Kinda funny. The man has a penchant for tight white jeans, a tight white tee shirt, but was just trying too hard to be arty farty for my liking (doing the whole vacant stare things during the encore, and taking his shirt off- PLEEEEEEAAAAAAASSSSSE!!!!).

Anyway the Razorlight gig last night was a mixed bag. Didn't start off very well having to queue up for ages to get in- come on the doors opened at 6pm and we didn't get there til at least 8.40pm id say- so a big BOOOOOOOO to Wembley Arena. Basically all the songs I liked they played, and did so really really well, but they did massacre some songs, and I think he was trying to be a bit like Jake Shears off the Scissor sisters, or something trying to strutt around the stage (NB he actually fell over too!). So yeah, they opened with In the Morning- nice one..... played Golden Touch which was great and a good sing-a-long, but my pick was definitley Stumble and Fall. Best song of the night. Two encores, the big finale was Somewhere Else. Yay its just reminds me of Edinburgh.

So not the best gig or anything by far, but still nice enough, and worth it. Maybe I'd recommend to see them at a festival perhaps?????

Bring on the Guillemots tonight- hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised....

This week is the big week....

Ive got Razorlight tonight, the Guillemots onThursday nigth, The Feeling on saturday, followed by a house party at my old flat, the rugby on sunday.......

Phewey!

I must say though its getting cold- daylight savings has ended and I even donned the scarf for the first time yesterday : (

Never mind Im just in a good mood today- Happy Days. Maybe it was because I lost my pumkin carving virginity last night. (yeah we were in a funny moody coming up with as much inuendo regarding pumpkins last night... maybe blame the mulled wine???)
